| The Riverfront Park is an integral part of one of the largest planned redevelopment projects in Central Florida. A new downtown for the City of Temple Terrace is planned as a pedestrian-oriented community that will set an example of a sustainable, urban development in an inner-ring city. The redevelopment effort is an important example, and model because it is on such a large-scale, for redevelopment efforts that will be more common in the State of Florida as growth occurs. Successful redevelopment of blighted, rundown parts of cities are crucial to effectively handling burgeoning growth, fostering economic development, and improving quality of life for citizens. | |||||||||

| Project Description: | |||||||||
| Rather than allowing its riverfront redevelopment property be privately developed, 2000 Temple Terrace citizens, in the summer of 2004, agreed at public charrettes that 3.5 acres of prime Hillsborough River frontage should become a public park. The proposed park area is included within the City of Temple Terrace Downtown Redevelopment Master Plan and will anchor a public linear green space component that runs through the proposed redevelopment plan and will be integral to the success of the overall project. Currently undeveloped and canopied with beautiful, old oak trees, the future reiverfront park will be designed to enhance its natural attributes and will accommodate non-motorized watercrafts such as canoes, kayaks, and crew boats. More specific elements of the project include a 150- to 200-foot pier; a pavilion; an urban boardwalk; a floating dock for canoes, kayaks, and crew boats; a storage facility for these boats, a playground, sidewalks, restrooms, site lighting, and a riverfront promenade. | |||||||||
