| Project Description: | ||||||||||||||||
| Construction costs relating to mitigation of existing flood areas exacerbated by recent hurricanes and improving treatment at the primary outfall to Blue Cove Lake. | ||||||||||||||||
| Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? | Yes | |||||||||||||||
| If yes, which declared disaster? | Hurricanes Jeanne & Francis | |||||||||||||||
| If yes, which year? | 2004 | |||||||||||||||
| Measurable Outcome Anticipated: | ||||||||||||||||
| Hurricanes Jeanne & Francis brought a significant amount of rainfall that threatened to collapse a berm located on the east side of Blue Cove Lake. If this berm does collapse, there could catastrophic damage to all the homes located between the berm and the Rainbow River. In addition, an outfall exists on the West side of the lake which takes untreated Stormwater from S.R. 45. Treatment of this Stormwater would greatly reduce the amount of pollutants entering into the Lake. | ||||||||||||||||

| Will this project reduce pollutant loadings to a water management district designated 'priority' surface water body? | Yes | |||||||||||||||
| Name of water body: | Rainbow River | |||||||||||||||
| Describe how it will reduce loadings, identify anticipated load reductions for total suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and other contaminants, and specify the practices that will be used to reduce loadings: | ||||||||||||||||
| In 1996 the Florida Department of Transportation prepared a Blue Cove Lake Pollution Mitigation study. This study was prepared in an effort to design possible treatment facilities to reduce the pollutant loading to Blue Cove Lake. The study was completed; however funding was not available to mitigate the problems identified in the study. In addition to mitigating the flooding on the east side of the lake, the City is requesting funding to improve the water quality conditions of water entering into the Blue Cove Lake off of S.R. 45. | ||||||||||||||||
