Project Description:
Lake Wauberg has experienced a decline in water quality which could pose a risk to human health and safety and loss of recreational value as a result of excess nutrients. This impairment is consistent with hundreds of nutrient impaired urban lakes in Florida. To restore Lake Wauberg and allow for continued recreational use the University of Florida seeks to employ an algal turf scrubbing system to remove nutrients from the lake and restore water quality and recreational benefits.

Describe how it will reduce loadings, identify anticipated load reductions for total suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and other contaminants, and specify the practices that will be used to reduce loadings:
The proposed algal turf scrubbing system, with a treatment capacity in excess of 5 million gallons per day, will reduce nitrogen and phosphorus loads and stores by an estimated 2,000 and 350 lbs per year, respectively, thereby reducing in-lake nutrient concentrations and improving water quality.
