Project Description:
This project is part of planned construction for the collection system that is replacing aging and deteriorating sewer and water lines located within the City of Fort Myers Downtown area. In conjunction with this replacement, the City is compelled to make stormwater improvements. The stormwater management improvements include relocation of stormwater lines and drainage conflicts. The City's existing system is far exceeding its design life in condition and performance as well as insufficient capacity per state and federal standards.

Is this a project related to a federal or state declared disaster? No

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Due to age and deteriorated infastructure, replacement of the existing system components to ensure adequate service and protection of public health and safety is necessary. A new drainage system to support the downtown area is required.

Describe how it will reduce loadings, identify anticipated load reductions for total suspended solids, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and other contaminants, and specify the practices that will be used to reduce loadings:
Due to scarcity of available land and the highly urbanized conditions in the project area (i.e. building at the back of sidewalk, almost entirely impervious parcels, etc.) surface ponds to provide water quality measures are not practical. Instead, water quality measures will be addressed by constructing proposed catch basins and drop inlets to include skimmers and sumps.
