| Project Description: | |||||||||
| River Region Human Services, Inc. (RRHS) request $476,000 to fund 1,019 bed days for pregnant women and their newborns. These women are homeless and have histories of substance abuse, domestic violence, and depression. Approximately 41.6% of women ages 12 or older reported using an illicit drug at some point in their lives. As a result of the abuse of alcohol and other drugs, many children are removed from their families due to substance abuse being a factor in a majority of child abuse and neglect cases. The Daffodil House program provides a safe, supportive environment for women with newborns. Generally, these women have been, are currently or have recently completed primary substance abuse treatment. Women are linked with a case manager, either through River Region or the Azalea Project (primary referral sources). A comprehensive plan is developed that meets the unique needs of each female and their infant. Collaboration and coordination of comprehensive service providers is a major factor in this program’s success | |||||||||
