HB 517 (2009) -  Residential Tenancies

Authorizes landlords to terminate utility services under certain conditions; defines terms; prohibits landlord from terminating, failing to renew, or refusing to enter into residential rental agreement because tenant, applicant, or family or household member is victim of domestic violence, dating violence, repeat violence, or sexual violence; allows victims of such violence to terminate residential rental agreement under certain circumstances; provides procedures to notify landlord; provides for liability for payment of rent & other unpaid amounts owed by tenant excluded from dwelling unit; provides when tenancy terminates for purposes of determining rent & amount owed; requires landlord to change door & other locks of dwelling unit of victim of domestic violence, dating violence, repeat violence, or sexual violence under certain circumstances within specified period; requires protected tenant to pay costs of changing door & other locks of dwelling unit; prohibits waiver of provisions of act.
