HB 1403 (2009) -  Clinical Perfusionists

Specifies financial responsibility requirements for clinical perfusionists; requires supervising physician to be qualified in medical area in which clinical perfusionist performs; prescribes duties of clinical perfusionist; requires clinical perfusionist to convey that he or she is clinical perfusionist to patient; authorizes clinical perfusionist to perform medical tasks & services within certain protocol; prohibits clinical perfusionist from prescribing, ordering, compounding, or dispensing certain drugs or medical devices; provides that clinical perfusionist may administer certain drugs, fluids, & blood products under supervision of physician; exempts perfusionist in training from requirements of clinical perfusionist; requires approval of Board of Medicine & Board of Osteopathic Medicine of training programs for clinical perfusionists; provides certification requirements; provides provisional certification requirements; provides for temporary certificate; authorizes boards to impose penalty against clinical perfusionist found guilty of or investigated for violating certain provisions; authorizes board chairs to appoint certain persons to advise boards; provides duties of boards; provides for denial, suspension, or revocation of certification; requires boards to adopt rules; requires DOH to allocate fees collected to boards; provides exemptions from certification requirements; excludes hospitals from payment of certain costs; provides that act does not prevent reimbursement of employers of clinical perfusionists.
