Explanations of Vote:

  • Allen -
The people of Florida deserve the benefit of informed opinion from their elected Representatives. Our system of democratically elected representative government provides for complicated issues to be examined in detail. In my experience, the 8 year term limit system has shifted the balance of power to the UNELECTED LOBBYISTS AND STAFF and away from the elected representatives. The 12 year term limit proposal before the voters will give them the opportunity to take back that lost power. Floridians should have a legislative system which allows experience and effective leadership opportunities to work for them. They can term limit me or any legislator every 2 years during the election cycle. However, the UNELECTED LOBBYISTS AND STAFF don't have to worry about the people but they would have to pay attention to the people's legislator who has the power of the people behind them for a 12 year term limit. I want my constituents to have the opportunity to take their government back.
