SANSOM ANNOUNCES HOUSE COUNCIL AND COMMITTEE LEADERS
TALLAHASSEE-Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives Ray Sansom, R-Destin, today
announced the representatives who will chair councils and committees during the 2009 legislative session.
In addition, Sansom announced the representatives who will serve as vice-chairs and ranking members
on the councils and committees. Earlier, Sansom named Rep. Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, to chair the Rules
and Calendar Council.
Sansom also announced today the creation of the Select Committee on Seminole Indian Compact
Review, to be chaired by Speaker pro tempore Larry Cretul, R-Ocala.
Sansom said, "The purpose of the select committee is to thoroughly review and provide an opportunity
for public comment on the proposed gambling compact between the State of Florida and the Seminole Tribe of
Florida." He said the select committee shall produce a written report no later than the opening day of regular
session, that includes both recommendations for proposed action and discussion and analysis ofthe issues
related to the compact.
"These individuals named today have demonstrated leadership, public service, and a commitment to
make Florida an even better place to live," said Speaker Sansom. " During these very difficult economic times,
it is especially important that our members have a thorough knowledge of the issues -especially in regard to
the state budget. I have great confidence that these leaders will help steer Florida on the best possible course."
