05/15/2009 Session Highlights 2009
05/07/2009 Budget Conference Report Reference Guide 2009-10 This is the worst budget crisis in Florida history, and while it took a few extra days, we believe it was more important to get it done right than simply get it done quickly. We have responsibly balanced the budget by taking a longer term view so that we can avoid similar circumstances next year and position Florida for economic recovery. Our decisions this year will save Floridians from billions of dollars in tax increases next year. Just like Florida’s families and small businesses, we had to prioritize spending and focus on what was most important. We had to stop spending more than we can afford and make the tough decisions in the long-term best interests of the state's financial future.
04/15/2009 Contingency Fee Agreements Between The Department Of Legal Affairs And Private Attorneys We are promoting accountability, transparency and good stewardship of public dollars anytime the Attorney General hires outside legal counsel. Taxpayer dollars should be maximized by providing a reasonable limit of $50 million on attorney fees when the Attorney General hires private attorneys on a contingency fee basis. Floridians deserve confidence that any contracts with private attorneys are in the public’s best interest and that public dollars will be used only for the public good.
04/13/2009 House Budget Proposal 2009 Reference Guide We are currently experiencing the worst budget crisis in Florida’s history. We recognize that our state is facing unprecedented economic challenges and Floridians are concerned about their economic future. Our focus is on recharging Florida’s economy and helping create jobs for Floridians. The decisions made in this budget are made to help Florida’s economy recover quickly and make the state better positioned than other states to benefit from the eventual turnaround in the economy.
04/10/2009 House Budget Proposal 2009 House Members have focused intently on their constitutional mandate to balance the budget. Our Members have reviewed the state budget line-by-line and have examined state government spending to make sure that we are focusing on the core missions of government and finding ways to make government more efficient and effective.
