Explanations of Vote:

  • Beltran -
I do not believe my constituents should be paying taxes to transport persons between other jurisdictions. I voted for similar legislation last year because the federal government was flying unauthorized aliens from other jurisdictions into Florida without any justification, let alone our knowledge and approval. I expected the money would be used to transport such persons out of Florida to other jurisdictions. The flights last year adequately illustrated the hypocrisy of other jurisdictions that purport to support open borders, and announce sanctuary policies, but then complain when unauthorized persons arrive in their jurisdiction. I do not believe Florida should regularly transport persons between other jurisdictions. Most of these persons would likely travel and/or remain elsewhere without this measure. Nor can Florida ensure that previously transported persons remain away from Florida. For the avoidance of any doubt, I continue to support transportation of unauthorized persons out of Florida, especially if they are intentionally transported into Florida by the federal government. I believe we should save our resources for such transportation. I otherwise support rigorous enforcement of immigration laws at all levels of government.
